- vSphere 8.0 Update 3 launches Memory Tiering in tech preview. This capability allows you to use NVMe devices that you add locally to an ESXi host as tiered memory. Memory tiering over NVMe optimizes performance by intelligently directing VM memory allocations to either NVMe devices or faster dynamic random access memory (DRAM) in the host and performing hot and cold memory page placements. This allows customers to increase their memory footprint, while increasing workload capacity and reducing the overall total cost of ownership (TCO).
- I have been playing around with it on a very small Intel NUC12 with 64 GB or RAM ….. Using the “Memory Tiering” feature I was able to blow it up to 320 GB RAM plus I was able to run a “VCF Holodeck” on a single box. Even this is of course not recommended to be used in production or a real testing platform, is shows the potential of this technology.

- AI is currently one of the largest hype for all businesses and feeding into several field of technology. Privacy and control over data gets even more in focus as soon as the first “experimental” phase with AI is done. So, the question is how and where do I run my AI using my own data? One answer to this is so called “Private AI” approach. This means having the full control on data and application within the borders of your own data center. VMware Private AI is such an approach based on a fully automated platform called VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). Some interesting links here
